The sounds of the season are heard as the bells ring, and the radios sings the familiar tunes of Christmas. Many of the songs that fill the air have done so for hundreds of years and contain within them the truth of the coming of Jesus. In our celebration of the season of Advent, we will also highlight the music of Christmas and the scriptures that tell the true reason for the season
What is Advent?
The first candle represents hope in anticipation of the coming Messiah. This candle is typically called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ.
The second candle typically represents love. Some traditions call this the "Bethlehem Candle," symbolizing Christ's manger.
The Third candle is customarily called the "Shepherds Candle" and it represents joy. This candle is traditionally pink.
The fourth candle named for the "Angel’s Candle," represents peace reflecting the message of peace on Earth.
On Christmas or Christmas Eve, the white center candle is traditionally lit. This candle is called the "Christ Candle" and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world.
